Separation and Convergence - Marimba Duet
4.0 and/or 5.0 octave marimba, 2 mallets
Duration: 4+ minutes
Difficulty: Medium
I wrote this piece to experiment with writing minimalist music. I have always been a fan of Steve Reich and Philip Glass, so I wanted to mimic my idols, while still creating my own sound. This version is for marimba duet, but there is also a version for piano solo. While listening, the music should slowly morph and create a trance-like atmosphere. There shouldn’t be any focus on harmonic or rhythmic material.
This version comes with a 4.0 and 5.0 octave version. Each version can be played on a single marimba. You can also turn this into a quartet with a 4.0 and 5.0 octave marimba, with two players on each. Have fun with it!
