Mysa
Vibraphone, 4 mallets
Duration: 2.5 minutes
Difficulty: Med-Easy
Mysa is a Swedish word with no direct English translation. Roughly translated, it means to be comfortable and content. This piece came out of a late night practice session in college. I was tired and needed a break from my other pieces. This became almost like a meditation for me, repeating the simple melody over some of my favorite chords. Listening back to it now, it reminds of those peaceful nights alone in a practice room or sitting in my room lit by dim Christmas lights listening to a vinyl record.
“Mysa” would make a great light addition to a heavy program or played as a short encore. It is also great for someone starting 4 mallets on vibraphone because of the free and simple pedaling.
